Southern Tuscany consists of undulating hills and offers easy to moderate rambling. The exception to this is that some of the most spectacular towns are located atop the highest hills. On some days we start our walk in the town and walk downhill. On other days we have our private bus meet us at the bottom of the hill so that anyone who does not want to walk up that last big hill can ride. Mostly we walk on quiet, gravel-surfaced roads. There are also some woodland trails where footing can be uneven. Streets of the hill-towns are usually cobble-stoned and so the footing can be rough. We strongly recommend that all participants wear hiking boots. Average daily distance for our longer walks is about 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) while the average distance for the shorter walks is 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) Some days we divide into two groups - a ramble and an amble. The ambling group will go slower with more frequent stops. On some days we have the bus meet us at various junctions in case anyone wishes to stop. Our emphasis is on having fun, exploring the country-side and sightseeing in the historic towns. There is plenty of walking available for those who want to go the extra mile but we try not to make it an endurance contest. About Safety:
