Walkers' World
Guided Walking and Sightseeing Holidays in
SORRENTO
and the AMALFI COAST, ITALY

2010 Dates:  Fri   May 7 - 14        Fri   Oct 1 -  8
Legend says that the Greek God Hercules loved a nymph called Amalfi and sought the most beautiful place in the world to immortalize her. He settled on the coast along the Bay of Naples. The ancient Greeks imagined this beautiful coast was inhabited by Sirens whose singing was impossible to escape. Later, in Roman times, the coast along the Bay of Naples attracted senators and emperors who built lavish holiday villas complete with wonderful art, fish ponds, nymphaea and thermal baths. Much of this was buried when Vesuvius erupted in 79AD and today one can see how the Romans lived at Pompeii.

But the Bay of Naples area is more than just history. Over the centuries it has been painted by artists, described by writers, lauded by poets and extolled in song. Many a Victorian traveller visited here on a "Grand Tour". On our walking holiday we enjoy marvelous views, intriguing towns, fascinating archeological sites and, of course, great Neopolitan food. The birthplace of pizza and pasta, this region is noted for its seafood and for "limoncello" made with locally grown lemons. We stay for seven nights at a traditional, four-star hotel at the edge of a small village called Sant Agata five km from the resort of Sorrento. Views from the hotel are of blue Mediterranean and Mount Vesuvius in the distance.

About Walkers' World Amalfi Coast Rambles:

This is a "single-centred" walking holiday where we stay at one hotel for a week (no packing and unpacking). Our private bus takes us to the start of the walks and brings us back at the end of the day. Our guided walks show you the best of the spectacular countryside with wonderful seascapes always in the background. We also visit legendary towns and historic sites which we tour with a local expert guide. On days when the walking is difficult we have a choice of two walks including one that is less strenuous.

What makes our Walkers World Amalfi Coast walking holidays special:
  • Local professional guides are bilingual and know their history. We tour Pompeii with an expert who makes ancient Roman life come alive.
  • A variety of restaurants offer a chance to sample Neapolitan cuisine.
  • Our private bus allows for a flexible schedule to suit our group. No waiting for public transport.
  • Having two levels of guided walking allows you to choose your pace.
  • A visit to the Amalfi Coast is not complete without a "gelato limone".
